NYPD exam: the city's own DCAS test

The NYPD exam is the NYC DCAS Police Officer exam, a test the city writes and runs itself. It is not the PELLETB, NPOST, FrontLine National or CJBAT, and this site has no NYPD practice test. What we can give you is the facts from the DCAS notice and a fair way to drill the abilities it measures.

What the NYPD exam measures

The DCAS notice lists nine abilities: deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, information ordering, memorization, problem sensitivity, spatial orientation, visualization, written comprehension, written expression. All nine are general abilities, none of them police knowledge, so preparing means drilling skills rather than memorizing law.

Practicing the same abilities on this site

Florida's CJBAT tests five abilities under the same names: memorization, written comprehension, written expression, deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. The question sets below were written for that test, not for NYPD. Treat them as skill drills, not as a preview of DCAS items:

Inductive reasoning has no question page of its own here yet. For more reading and grammar work, the NPOST reading and grammar sections train the same two written abilities. Problem sensitivity, information ordering, spatial orientation and visualization have no section of their own in the four tests we cover.

No NYPD practice test here

We do not have NYPD questions and do not sell NYPD prep. The facts on this page come from the DCAS Notice of Examination and the DCAS exam schedule; read the notice for your exam number's filing window and test dates.

Exam dates and the eligible list

There is no single "next NYPD exam". DCAS runs it as a series, with a new exam number about every month: a two-week application window, then testing the next month (as of Oct 21, 2026). The DCAS annual exam schedule shows which window is open now.

You need 70% to pass, but passing only gets you on the list: your score sets your place on the eligible list. Candidates are called in score order, so a higher score means an earlier call. A list usually stays active for four years.

From filing to the Police Academy

The order the DCAS notice gives, from application to appointment.

  1. Apply and schedule in OASys

  2. Multiple-choice test at a computer terminal

  3. Eligible list in score order

  4. Investigation, medical, psychological and qualifying physical tests

Character and background are checked before appointment; a $75 fingerprint fee is due at investigation.

NYPD exam questions

Is the NYPD exam the same as the PELLETB, NPOST or CJBAT?

No. NYPD hires from its own DCAS Police Officer exam (multiple choice, nine abilities, at a computer terminal). None of the four tests on this site counts toward it.

What score do you need to pass the NYPD exam?

70%. Above that line, your score sets your place on the eligible list.

When is the next NYPD exam?

A new exam number about every month: a two-week application window, then testing the next month (as of Oct 21, 2026). Check the DCAS schedule for the open filing window; each window has its own exam number.

How much does the NYPD exam cost?

$0 for Exam Nos. 7311–7322 (applications July 1, 2026 to June 14, 2027). A fingerprint fee comes later, at the investigation step (see the timeline above).

Is there an NYPD practice test on this site?

No. The CJBAT section pages linked above train abilities with the same names, and we label them as CJBAT questions, not NYPD items.
