Police Exam Ready

About this site and how we check facts

Police Exam Ready is an independent study resource for US police written tests. No test publisher, police department, sheriff's office or academy runs it, sponsors it or reviews it, and none pays to appear here.

Who we are

We're a small independent team that writes test-prep material. We don't publish a police test, we don't hire for any agency, and we run no affiliate offers.

There's no panel of named experts here. Instead, every rule we state can be checked: each one has a source link and the date we last checked it, so you can compare it with the agency's own page.

How we check facts

  • Facts about a test come from its owner's documents (California POST's guide and regulations, Stanard & Associates, NTN and FDLE) or from the agencies and test sites that give it, such as the Utah and Iowa sites for the NPOST. We never take them from another prep site.
  • Department rules come from the department's own recruiting pages and job bulletins, or from a state rule. For the PELLETB, the NPOST and the FrontLine, the passing score is the hiring agency's rule, and the NPOST leaves the retake wait and score life to the agency too. We store each rule with the agency that sets it, not with the test.
  • Each fact is stored once and every page reads it from there, so one correction fixes every page.
  • Tables link a source on each row and show the date we checked it. Numbers that change often, such as fees at a test site or job counts on NTN's board, carry an “as of” date.
  • When a test changes, we re-check every fact taken from the old version. A recent example is the PELLETB: CLOZE removed Jan 1, 2025.
  • We don't print “insider” cut scores, or pass rates that the test owner or agency hasn't published.

How we make the practice questions

  • Questions are written to each test's published sections and tagged with the section they test.
  • Every answer key is checked, and a reviewer who didn't write the question goes through it and every explanation.
  • Every option gets its own explanation, so a wrong pick still teaches you something.
  • Some formats are adapted for the web. FrontLine video scenes and CJBAT pictures are written out as text, and NPOST report answers, which are handwritten on the real test, are multiple choice here. Check the real format in the test owner's guide.
  • None of our questions is a real test item, and we don't publish items recalled by candidates.

Found an error?

Tell us through the contact page. Include the page, the rule as it appears, and where the agency or test owner says otherwise. Fact fixes come first, and the checked date in the table moves when we make one.
